World AIDS Day in Arsenał + Polish EIDS + Visual AIDS
1.12.2020, g. 18.00

On Tuesday, December 1, Arsenał Municipal Gallery along with Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, The Studio Museum in Harlem and MOCA in Los Angeles, joins the celebration of the World AIDS Day. We will show movies from this year's edition of Visual AIDS and for the first time we will present two publications initiated as a part of the research exhibition "Creative Diseases: AIDS, HIV, CANCER" (8.11.2019–12.01.2020).

The book Creative Sick States: AIDS, HIV, CANCER edited by Zofia Nierodzińska and Jacek Zwierzyński, which is a summary of the exhibition, compares the activism of the Polish Amazons with the actions around HIV in a broad, diseases-oriented perspective from the Berlin years of Audre Lorde to the COVID-19 pandemic. The publication will be made available online on the day of the event. On the other hand, a publication prepared by Szymon Adamczak in collaboration with Luiza Kempińska: A Little Publication on HIV is an attempt at a cross-sectional presentation of the Polish cultural heritage related to HIV and AIDS by the detailed conversations with artists, commentaries, reflections and a choice of archival materials.

In the second part we will show the movies from this year's edition of Day With(out) Art Visual AIDS: Transmissions about the HIV and AIDS influence on the countries outside of the American cultural context. Among the invited creators are: Jorge Bordello (Mexico), Gevi Dimitrakopoulou (Greece), Las Indetectables (Chile), Lucía Egaña Rojas (Chile/Spain), Charan Singh (India/Great Britain) and George Stanley Nsamba (Uganda).

Polish EIDS is an artistic and research platform created as a part of the Szymon Adamczak's residency at Biennale Warsaw in autumn 2020.
