Do universities adequately identify the problems present within their own structures? Are they self-critical, capable of selecting and implementing appropriate corrective measures as well as preventing potential risks? Are the actions taken by universities transparent and visible to their communities? How do declarations concerning the necessity of introducing change relate to the actual situation within the academic environment? In other words, are the actions of arts universities visible, adequate, and effective?
The point of departure for the discussion is the findings of the report Slim Chances… Calling Your Bluff! concerning the effectiveness of equality and anti-violence policies, as well as other practices employed by arts universities in relation to the actual challenges currently faced by individuals studying and working within these institutions. The contemporary problems to discuss include confronting stereotypes as well as various types of barriers, bias, and violence.
