The Family Image
a movement workshop in duos
23.09-28.10.2026

We invite you to participate in a series of movement workshops for duos, or adult participants connected by family relationships, whether within their family of origin or of choice. These may include e.g. a grandmother and granddaughter, two sisters, spouses, partners, a father and son, or friends. No previous dance experience is required to participate; all you need is being open and willing to share some experience together.

During the workshops, we will explore our relationships, examine how we enter into them, and discover their potential through movement and dance. The workshops are an invitation to engage with experimental choreographic practices and to participate in processes of co-creation through embodied experiences. We will draw on the foundations of contact improvisation, play, composition, and the creation of original dance scores, using choreographic tools and improvisational methods. We will create shared spaces to build, sustain, and trust the ideas we will develop together. Through movement improvisation, we will practise sharing support, attentiveness, and responsibility; we will exercise listening and being heard, with no hierarchy. We will explore our individual and collective potential for giving and receiving support. We will focus on what emerges in the present moment, collectively shaping the direction of our actions, without any pressure to achieve a specific outcome.

Each workshop will focus on a different theme to explore how it can be embodied within our relationships. We will seek to gain a deeper understanding of e.g. shared responsibility, alliance, courage, and communication, gauging their impact on building intimacy and togetherness. The final workshop will bring together and summarise all previous experiences and explorations.
