The Magicians
6.02.2018, godz. 9.00-12.00

The Magicians is a series of monthly classes for school children, supposed to generate a creative dialogue with the legacy of renowned Polish artists. We intend to induce kids to issues addressed in contemporary art, often regarded as less valuable in terms of the techniques and skills used and as hard to understand in terms of the message conveyed. Each meeting will be dedicated to a different artist. The meeting in March, called Street Stories, we be dedicated to Henryk Tomaszewski’s art.

The classes will be held for organised groups for children aged between 9 and 12, with carers. The classes are held twice a day (9am-10 am 1st group, 10:30am-12 noon 2nd group). Admission is free, on the first registered, first served basis. You can sign in by phone at 61 852 9501 or by e-mail: joanna.tekla@arsenal.art.pl. For further information contact the Gallery.

In order to shorten the current distance between recipients and art works, in our classes we will look for the answer to the question of how to navigate the rough seas of contemporary art, which are so hard to interpret. We will intertwine threads of artistic creativity with the reality that surrounds us. Inspired by great Polish artists, we will creatively reinterpret our closest surroundings – the city of Poznań.

Can the colour, the way of constructing the letters or the layout of the illustrations influence the emotions of the recipient? Is a movie poster, displayed on the street among numerous other advertisements, a work of art? During the workshops, we will get to know posters and covers designed by Henryk Tomaszewski. We will moreover get to know the context of the Polish school of poster and learn about the revolution made by Tomaszewski in the design of film posters. The artist emphasized that he creates for people and for the street, which is why - inspired by the knowledge of art and traditional street typography - we will create our own unique projects. Making use of photographs of Poznań's typography, we will construct posters for films invented by us, which might be set in the streets of Poznań. We will focus mainly on the design process during which we will produce colourful posters.
