Get Down, Get Down Little Henry Lee and Stay all Night With Me was created for the group exhibition The Walls Have Ears at Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin. In addition, it was shown during the exhibition All of Poland at BWA Wrocław and at the Gdańsk City Gallery.
The majority of Lucińska and Knychaus’ current projects are focused on speculative scenarios concerning the future – including any that are uncertain, imaginary or based on fantasy. Unknown areas and the “cracks” in the seemingly stable reality are the starting points of many of their projects.
The form of Get Down, Get Down… refers to an abstract portal. An ornamental metal frame holds a silk membrane emitting a soft light, which constitutes a kind of symbolic, imaginary passage to a parallel world. The latter does not necessarily encompass distant, fantastical regions, but may reveal the subcutaneous undercurrents of reality.
Ula Lucińska (b. 1992) and Michal Knychaus (b. 1987) work together as the duo Inside Job. Their artistic practice revolves around interdisciplinary projects that employ a variety of media and materials and often comprise multithreaded, immersive environments that refer to futuristic and post-catastrophic scenarios. They focus on the process of constructing identity and the relationship between humans, nature, and technology. The duo were finalists of the international Artagon IV competition in Paris in 2018 and winners of the Santander Universidades prize in 2016, they also received awards from the magazines “SZUM” and “Czas Kultury” for their joint graduation project in 2018. They have presented their work during artist residencies (Residency Gurzelen, Biel/Bienne, Switzerland; DriveDrive, Nicosia, Cyprus; Kulturfabrik, Burgdorf, Switzerland), solo exhibitions (e.g. SKALA Gallery, Poznań; Hot Wheels Projects, Athens, Greece), and group exhibitions (e.g., WallRiss, Freiburg, Switzerland; Sattlekammer, Bern, Switzerland; Athens Digital Arts Festival, Athens, Greece; Galeria DuflonRacz, Bern, Switzerland; Ostrale Biennale of Contemporary Arts, Dresden, Germany; Musara Mix Festival, Jerusalem, Israel; New Waves, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Virginia, USA; Callegenera Festival, Monterrey, Mexico).
