The Make it Pop  workshop is a hands-on introduction to the mechanics of paper and pop-up construction. It piggybacks on the book Siła Formy. Pop-up. Artystki polskie XX i XXI wieku (Strength of Form. Pop-up. Polish Women Artists of the 20th and 21st Centuries), which interprets in 3D as many as 59 works by Polish women artists.

The workshop develops skills that are useful in design and creative work: spatial thinking, the fundamentals of construction logic, an understanding of materials, and the principles of constructing moving forms.

Participants work with prepared templates and learn step by step how pop-ups come into being. No prior experience is required. Everyone completes the session with a work made by hand and a practical understanding of how a flat sheet of paper can become a three-dimensional object.

Those wishing to take a look “behind the scenes” will be told by the workshop moderator about the realities of producing pop-up books, namely what types of paper are used, why prototyping is so important, what limitations arise when assembling larger print runs, and what collaboration with printing houses looks like. It is a unique chance to exchange practical knowledge about art that usually remains hidden.
