"The existence of the interdisciplinary field of ArtScience testifies to a new character of the arts: 'Most artistic practices of today are no longer contingent on the modernist ideal of disinterested experience, but on [...] utility', wrote art sociologist Maria Hynes. ArtScience is a practice in which interdisciplinary collaboration is idealised as a value in itself. Yet practice precedes theory, Hynes noted; there is a persistent lack of codification and theoretical descriptions of the art-science interfaces".
The above quote is from the book Silent Morality. The interplay between art and science raises distinct ethical issues. The ethical issues addressed today in the art world arise from the institutional constraints and synergies of art, science and technology: the search for new productivity of art in relation to other disciplines, directors' and artistic abuse, harassment, sexism, trashy labour contracts, lack of social safeguards, and violence used against project participants. How are these ethical issues reinforced by intangible work in the creative economy? What is the autonomy of the arts at a time of "transdisciplinarity" in "Western post-Fordist societies", to use the jargon? How do we write and talk about a relational ethics of art collaborating with science and technology? How do we practice collaborative art? The debate will revolve around Waldemar Rapior’s book Moralność milcząca. Odsłanianie interakcyjnych mechanizmów moralności poprzez post-teatr [Silent Morality. The Post-Theatre’s Uncovering the Interactive Patterns of Morality].
