The workshop is an induction into the world of Japanese sumi-e painting, which aims not so much at a precise rendition of reality, but at capturing its deepest essence. The artist leaves out the expendable and focuses on the core of the motif to express it via the harmony of the brush, ink and empty space. Sumi-e is based on four basic brushstrokes, which are the cornerstone of the technique. The workshop will introduce two of them, the bamboo and the wild plum, and teach their shapes, rhythms and correct brush movements.
