Michael Kurzwelly has for over three decades been involved in projects bridging artistic and social creativity. Joseph Beuys’ concept of the "social sculpture" is the artist’s major reference point. Beuys maintained that each person as a social being has the creative capacity to change themselves and the world. The tour of the New America show will be held by persons connected to the Multisenses Foundation. They start from the premise that the "social sculpture" does not exist without the accessibility of art. They will invite us to explore the works presented in a way that focuses on non-visual experience. Together, we will reflect on the potential of art to trigger social change.
The meeting will be hosted by the team of the Accessible Visual Culture Foundation - Multisenses, an initiative to include people with disabilities in art reception and creation. Since 2018, we have strived to make culture sensitive and open to diverse needs. Currently, our activities are directed mainly at the blind and the visually impaired, for whom we create a space enabling them to explore art on their own.
The guided tour is adapted for visually impaired visitors and is open to all those interested in multi-sensory exploration of art. We also welcome anyone interested in exploring art through senses other than sight.
We will aid those wishing to participate in the guided tour who live in close proximity to the Gallery.
