Where is winter?
Winter break activities in GaMA
20-24.01.2025

We invite you on an artistic journey through far-off, frosty lands. We will show you various craft techniques, including felting, weaving and ceramics. They will be our guides to uncharted spaces. We will follow the tracks of forest animals and look into the woods to discover the signs of winter. We will also look high up in the clouds to see if they will shower us with snowflakes. In addition, we will conjure up imaginative pictures made of wool and hide our own winter in them to stay there forever.

Day 1. Where is winter really? (map of winter - collage)

On the first day, we will explore the roads, paths, and trails that lead us to winter. We will talk about the cold regions of the world, life in the lands of eternal snow and the people who live there. In the visual arts part of the workshop, we will create our own winter associations map in the form of a collage, drawing on our own experiences, memories, and acquired information.

Day 2. In a winter forest (winter forest model)

On the second day, we will take you to the polar forests. We will find out what trees and other plants grow in the taiga. With our own hands, we will make our winter forest mock-ups out of twigs, cardboard, felt, and other interesting materials.

Day 3. Footprints in the snow (winter clay animals)

On this day, we will find out who leaves footprints in the snow in the forest in winter. We will take a look into the world of animals that live in the coldest parts of the world. Afterwards we will mould the animals we have met from clay. The animals will live in a forest made beforehand.

Day 4. Where does snow come from? (weaving clouds)

Where does snow come from? What has to happen for white powder to start falling from the clouds? These are the questions we will be trying to answer on the third day. In the arts and crafts part, we will weave clouds out of fluffy and extra soft wool and make them snow.

Day 5. Mysteries of the aurora borealis (the woollen aurora borealis - felting)

On the last day, we will take a look at a beautiful phenomenon from the far North. The aurora borealis is an amazing spectacle of light play. But where does it come from? Is it possible that the northern lights can be observed from the windows of our homes? We'll use wool, yarns and glitter to make our own aurora from felt and encapsulate it in a winter picture
