This art workshop for young people we be used to create personal ornaments: medallions, talismans, pendants, necklaces, and bracelets, modelled on jewellery from early historical periods.
Pieces of wood of varying sizes and origins (small boards, blocks, and both smaller and larger branches and sticks) will be used to produce ornaments. The wood will be combined with fabrics, cords, yarns, beads, and other natural materials. We will learn various ethnic patterns and cultural motifs. Paints will also be available for decoration. The underlying idea is to work with natural, simple materials found in nature, without metals or contemporary accessories.
We will begin with a short presentation of the materials and tools:
- an overview of the materials, classified into different types (wood, sticks, cords, additional elements, and suggestions for their use in relation to artistic work)
- a presentation of hand tools (scissors, knives, glue dispensers) and cordless power tools—hot glue guns and a drill—with brief instruction.
Participants will then select elements from the prepared, sorted materials and proceed to work on their own ornament, such as a medallion or talisman.
The workshop participants will be able to draw on ideas from prepared examples, but children are encouraged to activate their imagination and create unique, one-of-a-kind ornaments.
Such workshops will stimulate participants’ creativity; as a result of our activities, the processed materials will not only gain value but will also become singular objects. The workshop will combine creativity with an environmentally conscious approach, as we will breathe new life into seemingly insignificant pieces of wood.
