The workshop is directly inspired by the exhibition Seeking Balance by the artist Michal Kern. It is an attempt to reframe a creative dialogue with nature in the context of contemporary challenges of overstimulation, stress, and fatigue. Through activities undertaken in greenery and in direct contact with the natural environment, i.e. through the unmediated experience upon which Kern’s practice was based, we will explore simple techniques that effectively regulate the nervous system.
The workshop combines themes of creative activity in nature (following Kern) with elements of urban shinrin-yoku and the basic principles of neurographic art. After visiting Kern’s exhibition at the Arsenał Municipal Gallery, we will walk together to the nearby Chopin Park, where we will engage in a series of creative tasks designed to foster a more attentive and alternative perspective on the relationship between humans and nature. Our activities will have a therapeutic character as we will employ simple techniques that prioritise the process (e.g. drawing) over the final outcome, although the latter will not be neglected.
Workshop moderator: Natalia Adamczyk—educator, teacher, and community animator, who for the past five years has also been a certified forest bathing guide. Working under the name Leśna Ścieżka (“Forest Path”), in addition to leading regular shinrin-yoku sessions, she has undertaken several creative projects exploring the integration of mindfulness in nature with various forms of artistic practice.
