Legends about beings from The Regained Territories
a workshop for primary students, grades 6-8
8-9.10.2026

REGISTRATION CLOSED

After touring the exhibition and discussing it, we’ll freely explore the artistic spaces explored by Sonia Rammer.

The groups of young designers will be tasked with creating a concept for a sample or element of a functional object, e.g. a clothing print, a furniture upholstery texture, or a floor panel colour scheme. All of them will be inspired by the austere landscapes depicted in the artist’s work (desert, Greenland, underground/mine, Himalayas).

Special guidance cards will help the groups address this task and enable their analysis  of the textures, shapes, and colour ranges of a given landscape in relation to their work. The groups will produce a design concept in the form of a collage resembling a mood board. Group presentations will be the final point of the agenda.

Students will learn e.g. the ins and outs of stylization; they will learn how to simplify and transform a realistic natural motif such as a leaf, a crack in a rock, or waves, into an abstract functional pattern. The participants will explore the principles of composition to understand the concepts of rhythm, symmetry, and repetition in surface design. They will examine the differences between texture and surface texture to distinguish between tactile and visual patterns, such as those used for printing. Work with the colour wheel will help students better grasp how to select a balanced, landscape-inspired colour palette.
