Colourful Threads, Family Warp
a workshop of the series Family Encounters with Art
30.05.2026, 11 am - 1 pm

Between one thread and the next, within the cadence of up–down, up–down, a field of colour will gradually emerge as textile. This measured, repetitive gesture induces a state of quietude and concentration, while affording the particular satisfaction inherent in manual making. Working on looms prepared in advance, participants will co-create a polychrome wall hanging, a unique object composed of intersecting narratives and affects.

The workshop will draw upon formative moments in the life of the family, approached as sources of visual and tactile translation. Memories, emotions, and associations will be rendered through soft, abrasive, diaphanous, or emphatic colours and textures. We will employ a heterogeneous range of materials: dyed yarns, fragments of cloth, and lengths of cord, enabling the articulation of varied structures and surface effects within the textile.

Participants will be introduced to two elementary weaving structures and will acquire the capacity to construct pattern sequentially. Each individual will contribute a discrete segment to the collective textile, in accordance with their own conceptual and sensorial orientation. The concluding phase will address the finishing of the work: the addition of fringes, pompons, or a combination thereof, conceived as an extension of formal exploration.

The workshops constitute a space in which creative practice converges with attentiveness and shared presence; this is an environment conducive to joint projects, where the emergent textile operates simultaneously as object and record of a relationship.
