The work is a letter informing of the decision of the municipal company of the Board of Communal Housing Resources to renovate the roof of the building where the DOMIE project (Święty Marcin 53A, Poznań), run by the KOMPLET Association and the DOMIE community, has been operating since 12 April 2018. Previously, for more than 30 years, it was home to a photoplasticon. ZKZL Sp. z o .o. renovated the roof to the tune of around PLN 70,000, setting a precedent for a new model of cooperation between the city and grassroots entities. The letter became the first legal document confirming the agreement between the two parties to join forces in order to create an independent space, open to all kinds of people, and centred on collectivity, exchange, and mutual assistance.

The letter included in the work is one of three copies of the original document (donation certificates). It also serves as an encouraging example and proves that collaboration between the city, artists, and the community may be horizontal and worthy of exploring. The roof has also become a symbol for all those who have been looking for an artistic refuge and a space for artists to work – precarious workers, as well as those who for various reasons belong to socially excluded groups (migrants, refugees, non-heteronormative people, etc.).

Martyna Miller is an interdisciplinary artist, director, and anthropologist. She studied in Warsaw and Sarajevo. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the UAP. Co-founder of the performative collective TYNA and the author of sexinsitu. Co-founder of the DOMIE project – an experiment at the intersection of art, architecture, and social sciences. She operates in the space of memory and the body in order to explore alternative modes of communication, the prospects of contemporary transgressions, and the archiving of knowledge. She took part in the TOKAS Tokyo Arts and Space Residency.

Katarzyna Wojtczak is a visual artist, performer, and explorer. In her artistic pursuits, she is interested in creating domestic situations offering adequate space for natural behaviour. She studied architecture at the Università degli Studi di Firenze in Italy and lived in Berlin, where she ran the Künstlerhaus on Weisensee, a three-storey house for female artists. It housed people from all over the world, as well as a jazz bar, two pianos, a church organ, and plenty of other instruments. The building’s corridors were full of paintings and photographs created by people who contributed to the space.
